Idaho Workforce Development Council to Meet in Boise Jan. 11

A representative from the governor’s office will introduce Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter’s new task force on workforce training at the Workforce Development Council quarterly meeting Wednesday, Jan 11. The meeting runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Grove Hotel in Boise.

The task force will encourage increased engagement among Idaho business and industry, the legislature, education and economic development organizations in the decision-making and priority setting for workforce training.

The council also will receive updates on:

  • Every Student Succeeds Act state plan from the Idaho Department of Education;
  • College and career counseling from the Idaho Department of Education;
  • The Career Information System Future in Action AmeriCorps and Inspiring Futures VISTA programs from the Idaho Department of Labor;
  • Dislocated worker success stories from the Idaho Department of Labor.

Additional agenda items include updates from Idaho Department of Labor Director Ken Edmunds; Idaho Department of Commerce Director Megan Ronk and Career & Technical Education Administrator Dwight Johnson.

Council members, appointed by Otter, represent businesses, workers, education, state and local government and community based organizations. The council’s mission is to advise the governor and the State Board of Education on strategies designed to yield high quality workforce innovation and opportunity services for Idaho’s businesses, job seekers and students.
