Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) will hold three informational sessions aimed at helping people interested in a career in construction. TVCC will discuss available opportunities available and how TVCC’s Introduction to Carpentry class can help provide the training needed to land a construction job.
The informational sessions will take place in the Canyon County office of the Idaho Department of Labor, 4514 Thomas Jefferson St. in Caldwell at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28 and 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. Assistance paying for the training class may be available to interested job seekers and this information will be discussed at the information sessions.
The 4-credit Introduction to Carpentry course is an 11-week course held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 8:45 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 26. Course content will include training necessary for industry certifications including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Students in the course will be provided with opportunities to make connections with potential employers. In order to enroll in this course, participants must be eligible to work in the United States and be 16 years or older.
Department projections predict construction employment to grow at 2.5% annually through 2024. Studies show that since mid-2012, the state has consistently added more than 1,000 jobs on a year-to-year basis.
