Primary Purpose

Performs complex engineering, problem solving, installation, maintenance and implementation of Local Area Networking, Wide Area Networking, Wireless Local Area Networking, Voice over IP, Telecommunications Systems, and associated systems and infrastructure in a fully IP converged environment.

Key Responsibilities

Performs complex engineering and problem solving activities associated with Local Area Networking, Wide Area Networking, Wireless Networking, Voice and Voice over IP, Network Security, and Telecommunications Systems with associated infrastructure.

Designs, configures, installs, maintains, repairs, monitors, manages, evaluates, tests, and advises on LAN/WAN/WLAN/VoIP infrastructure (routing/switching/circuits) network operating systems, servers, monitoring/security systems, VPNs, and traffic/bandwidth management.

Performs complex telecommunications operations associated with Voice and Voice-over-IP systems.

Make independent decisions critical to the daily operation of voice, video, and data network stability, security, reliability and operation, which may, or may not be based on established policy and/or guidelines. Act in place of Sr. Network Engineer in their absence.

Work in a team setting and contribute to the operational, strategic planning, and business continuity/disaster recovery solutions for the enterprise voice and data networks.

Shared 24x7 on-call and after-hours maintenance responsibilities.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology field with (3) years minimum full-time hands-on experience OR Technical Degree/Certificate in Telecommunications/Networking, or related field with (5) years minimum full-time hands-on experience OR (7) years full-time hands-on experience.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in networking and telecommunications concepts, principles, applications, protocols, design, configuration, installation, and system management of routers, switches, network operating systems, servers, VPNs, etc., in a converged LAN/WAN/WLAN/VoIP environment.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in maintenance procedures and equipment analysis, evaluation, testing, and consulting.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience with diverse transport protocols over copper, fiber optics, circuits, and wireless infrastructures.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in packet and protocol analysis.

Comprehensive knowledge and clear understanding of the OSI model with experience working at all layers and associated protocol stacks.

The ability to lift moderate loads (50-60 lbs.), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a large corporate, municipality, or educational institution.

Comprehensive knowledge and experience designing, installing, monitoring, configuring, and managing, network servers, applications and storage.

Cisco CCNA certification.

The approved salary range is $60,000 - $65,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
