Primary Purpose
The Idaho State University College of Pharmacy is conducting a search for a dynamic, accomplished, and visionary individual to serve as Chair of the Department Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPSCI). The successful candidate would be eligible for appointment to a tenure-track, 12-month faculty position at the associate professor or professor level. The BPSCI department has a diverse mission that includes the scholarship of discovery and/or integration, graduate education in the Pharmaceutical Sciences, and educational support of the PharmD professional program. Additionally, it works closely with other departments in the College, Division of Health Sciences, and the University. Due to a number of recent and impending retirements, the department is entering an important transformational phase that will provide the Chair with sufficient resources to refocus, re-vitalize, and develop its teaching and research mission.

Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a senior administrator, the Chair is responsible for working with faculty to evolve the strategic vision and direction for the department, as well as provide leadership in the recruitment, development, mentoring, guidance and retention of faculty and staff appointed to the department.  

Additional responsibilities include:
•    Fiscal management, generation of policies, procedures, & communications for the department, college, university, community and external stakeholders.
•    Faculty and staff annual performance evaluations and development.
•    Teach in professional and graduate departmental courses, assign departmental teaching responsibilities, and oversee the development and delivery of instructional activities of faculty within the department.
•    Oversee departmental review and formulate recommendations of departmental candidates for promotion and/or tenure.
•    Seek extramural funding for scholarship and maintain an active scholarship program.
•    Provide administrative oversight and direction for the Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate program.
•    Serve on the College’s Administrative Council Committee.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience: We seek a chair who has been a successful leader in academia with a record of sustained excellence in research and scholarship. Candidates must hold a PhD focused in one of the Pharmaceutical Science disciplines, including Pharmacology (or a related sub-discipline), Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy or a closely related biomedical discipline and have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Criteria for research excellence will include a strong record of publications and presentations in high impact venues, a successful research funding history (in the case of applicants who already hold a tenured position), a summary of planned research projects, and appropriately supportive and detailed letters of reference. Evidence of high-caliber teaching and supervisory potential will be documented via previous teaching experiences, letters of reference, and a statement of teaching philosophy.
Other Qualifications: Demonstrated ethical behavior, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and leadership and management abilities sufficient to run the Department; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports, University policies and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from faculty, staff, students, and administration.

Preferred Qualifications
It would be highly desirable for the candidate to hold a professional degree in pharmacy and have a minimum of five years’ experience in an ACPE accredited College/School of Pharmacy.
