Hourly Salary + Per Diem

These positions are temporary, full-time appointments without benefits.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring seven (7) Environmental Technicians to monitor and evaluate water quality conditions in Idaho's streams.  Crews are based out of Boise and camp in remote locations three or more nights per week.  Crews are required to furnish their own camping and cooking equipment.  Applicants must be available mid-June through August, with some positions working through September.  The ideal candidate will  have experience working outdoors, on a field crew or team, performing environmental monitoring, be detail oriented in collecting and recording data, capable of hiking and camping, with knowledge of outdoor survival skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Working outdoors
  • Monitoring water quality
  • Collecting fish and aquatic insects
  • Electrofishing
  • Surveying Habitat
  • Performing stream bank surveys
  • May involve working at high altitudes
  • May involve working ten (10) days on with four (4) days off

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Ability to work during exposure to inclement weather
  • Ability to walk over rough terrain while lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to hike in hip boots/waders over rough terrain and in streams
  • Available to work mid-June through August

DEQ Provides:

  • Transportation to and from field to regional office location
  • Monitoring equipment and training
  • Wilderness and first aid training
  • Hourly salary + field day per diem

DEQ Does Not Provide:

  • Transportation between home and regional office location
  • Housing 
  • Camping gear/equipment
