Primary Purpose
Idaho State University Department of Physics, Nuclear and Electrical Engineering seeks a materials scientist for an assistant, associate, or full professor position.

We are seeking an outstanding researcher/faculty member in the materials science area with experience in materials behavior at the nanoscale level. Research will primarily focus on developing new high temperature metals for possible use in nuclear reactors.  Project work is expected to consist of a mix of 1) laboratory-based testing, materials characterization, 2) analytical work along with modeling and 3) simulation of various new multi-phase microstructures yet to be developed, some of which are expected to be developed in conjunction with unique research facilities at the ISU Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC). Experience is also desired in the use of experimental techniques such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy, orientation imaging, and atom-probe tomography. Research opportunities and collaboration through a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory (INL) will be possible. 

Key Responsibilities
Research activities will be complemented by 1) teaching one ISU Nuclear Engineering or Physics course (TBD) per semester, and 2) advising 3-4 ISU Physics and Nuclear Engineering graduate students in M.S. or Ph.D. projects related to the main research area described above. The selected candidate is expected to be a strong asset to ISU' s PNEE Department and will have research opportunities to collaborate with Idaho National Laboratory.  Expectations include l) successfully working on his/her own research projects, 2) successfully teaching ISU courses, 3) solid mentoring of his/her students, and 4) expanding his/her research program and team by bringing in additional grants and contracts. Finally, the research/teacher will prepare and contribute to the usual technical reports, peer-reviewed papers, presentations at national technical meetings, and project reviews for program sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications
This position is a Full-time, academic year appointment and requires a Ph.D. degree in Physics; Nuclear, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering; or similar program.  Position level will be 1) at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, depending on experience; 2) tenure or non-tenure, depending on desire and negotiations.   Salary will depend on experience and previous accomplishments.
