SPECIAL NOTIFICATION:  This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION:

Incumbent will teach a minimum of 30 credit hours or equivalent per academic year with possible overload hours.  The Computer Networking Technologies (CNT) Instructor will prepare and deliver courses in Computer Network Technologies related to Cisco, Microsoft server (MCSA), wireless networks, network security, Linux, Desktop/Client, leadership, and employment strategies.  Advises students.  Ability to manage and lead in collaborative environment.

EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:  Classes may include: 

  • Cisco (Internetworking technologies, router setup and operation, scaling networks)
  • Microsoft Server (MCSA)
  • Wireless Networks
  • Linux
  • Desktop/Client
  • Leadership and Employment Strategies.

The instructor will be responsible for providing students with a complete syllabus, clear lectures and classroom activities; continually promoting the development and effective use of skills necessary for the industry; providing the student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress; maintaining accurate, up-to-date records; and possessing a thorough knowledge and understanding of all college policies.     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Combined education and experience of 8+ years in computer networking
  • Ability and willingness to obtain appropriate industry certifications: ComptTIA: A+ Hardware/Software, Linux+, Security+, Cisco: CCENT and CCNA; an Idaho Career Technical Education Certificate endorsed Network Support Technician
  • Significant industry experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty
  • Display a student-centered approach
  • Willingness to reinforce all lecture lesson with hand-on experience
  • Willingness to expand offerings to meet regional needs
  • Consistently demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and professionalism 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Combined education and experience of 8+ years in computer networking
  • Microsoft MCSA certifications: Desktop and Microsoft Server (enterprise network and server infrastructure)
  • CompTIA: A+ Hardware/Software, Linux+, Security+
  • Cisco: CCENT and CCNA
  • Significant industry experience and teaching training experience, AAS or higher post-secondary degree
  • Idaho post-secondary education policies and procedures such as FERPA
