Primary Purpose

Oversees education and outreach efforts for all ages for the Idaho Museum of Natural History.

Key Responsibilities 

•    Plan, coordinate and present educational programs for the Idaho Museum of Natural History
•    Plan and coordinate museum programs with museum staff, teachers, principals, and organization leaders
•    Assist staff with promoting and marketing museum activities
•    Develop and distribute questionnaires to obtain educational and program information
•    Develop lesson plans for exhibits
•    Work with staff to develop education content for exhibits
•    Schedule and operate the museum's education resource center
•    Develop resource materials for education
•    Develop and conduct tour guide programs, workshops and field trips to teach university instructors, volunteer guides, and public school teachers the content and scientific concepts of exhibits
•    Coordinate the Broader Impacts program
•    Visit schools to present natural history programs to students
•    Monitor use and scheduling of mobile laboratories and mobile exhibit gallery
•    Prepare reports on visit statistics and education activities
•    Prepare grant proposals
•    Prepare budget and monitor expenditures
•    Recruit and supervise docents, volunteers, interns and work study students
•    Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

•    Bachelor’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Geology, Biology, or Anthropology; or a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Biology or Anthropology
•    One (1) year experience teaching in a leading role
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Good management skills
•    Willing to work weekends and after hours for events
•    A passion for sharing knowledge about our natural world

Preferred Qualifications

•    Master’s degree
•    Experience with grant writing
