The State Insurance Fund (SIF) is Idaho’s leading workers compensation insurance provider, serving Idaho employers and injured workers since 1917. A majority of our policyholders are small businesses that are the backbone of Idaho’s economy. We’re proud to offer services that help protect their employees and support their financial strength.

At SIF, you will perform field audits of our policyholder’s direct payroll and related business records for determining workers compensation insurance premiums. You’ll review and update risk exposure. Additionally, you’ll assist policyholders with their inquiries regarding premium audits. Approximately 80% travel throughout an assigned area of the state is required. This position is located in our Idaho Falls office.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Performing field audits of policyholder payroll records, other related documents, and systems as required to facilitate adjustment of premium within the policy contract, Idaho law, and applicable NCCI (National Council on Compensation Insurance) rules and regulations.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional customer service relationships with policyholders, their representatives, and insurance agents.
  • Reviewing policyholder operations to include business ownership, change of exposure, claims, NCCI classifications, and potential work site hazards.
  • Conducting in-depth interviews with policyholders and agents relating to audit results.
  • Providing comprehensive written audit reports within established time frames and audit standards.
  • Reviewing completed audits for compliance to standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicating policyholder exposure issues with appropriate SIF departments.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current industry changes and trends that include NCCI, Idaho Code, legal decisions, and SIF standards.

Your background/experience should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write reports in a clear and concise manner. Business writing experience helpful.
  • Proficiency in interpreting insurance laws and insurance policy contracts.
  • Some knowledge of NCCI rules and regulations and Idaho law as it applies to workers compensation insurance.
  • Experience conducting in-depth interviews to elicit sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge of business financial, accounting, and/or payroll processes.
  • Experience in accurately performing mathematical calculations including calculations using decimals, fractions, and percentages.
  • Proficient in use of ten key calculator, payroll software systems, and Microsoft Office suite of software products.
  • Self-directed in managing your time and completing work assignments within specified.

Work Environment:

This position is very active and requires approximately 80% field work. The person in this position must be able to traverse to/from policyholder sites on a daily basis. Work is performed in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, climate-controlled offices, multi-story commercial buildings, residential homes, and outdoor agricultural and construction sites. Must be able to transport a laptop computer to/from work sites daily.

Special Requirements:

Extensive local travel is required on a daily basis. Occasional regional travel.
