We are currently seeking a highly organized, extremely reliable General Maintenance Associate with strong attention to detail to join our team. Working closely with team members in our Administration department, you will be counted on to help maintain SIF’s facilities, grounds, and equipment through routine and special maintenance/repair projects.

  • Performs custodial maintenance work including dusting and vacuuming rooms; mopping and polishing floors; cleaning carpet, upholstery, and furniture; washing windows, woodwork, doors, and walls; collecting and disposing of waste.
  • Performs building and grounds maintenance work including cleaning/maintaining exterior stairwells; removing trash around building and parking garage; ensuring that exterior sidewalks and courtyard areas around the perimeter of the building are clean and free from debris; and performing snow removal during winter months. 
  • Assembles, disassembles, and moves office furniture.
  • Stocks needed materials and supplies.
  • Provides maintenance and minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, and sprinkler systems; may perform routine carpentry work.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance of building including patching walls and doors, painting walls and trim, and replacing fixtures and partitions.
  • Mows lawn and maintains flowerbeds; trims trees and sprays for insects.  May perform minor weed control.
  • Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and meetings.
  • Performs other related work as required.


  • Three (3) years’ experience in custodial, building maintenance, or general labor.
  • Excellent attendance record with the ability to report to work on time consistently regardless of weather conditions. 
  • Operation and maintenance of lawn mowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, and custodial equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of maintenance and repair work; thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures. Knowledge of operation of basic tools utilized in building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of proper application and handling of lawn and plant fertilizers and insecticides.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; thorough knowledge of proper lifting techniques.  Skilled in use of hand trucks and pallet jacks.  Ability to sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity. 
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, and climb on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of building operations and maintenance activities including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills. Reading/writing skills capable of responding to/producing internal e-mail communications.
  • Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions, make routine decisions independently, and work harmoniously with others.

Work Environment:

This position will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
