The Idaho State Tax Commission is recruiting for temporary Mail Openers for its upcoming 2018 Tax Drive Season

There are a limited number of Mail Openers positions. Individuals are encouraged to apply for temporary tax drive Taxpayer Accounting Clerk, Data Specialist, Registration Clerk, and/or Imaging Clerk position(s). To be considered for a temporary tax drive position, you must apply separately under the announcement for each position you are interested in and your name must be referred to the hiring agency.

Tax Drive positions do not have benefits. The date of hire, shift and duration varies based on the position.


Top candidates will be invited to participate in an information session which will include an interview on January 4, 2018.  The targeted start date is January 22, 2018.   


  • Open, assemble, date stamp, identify and code tax documents for processing
  • Sort tax returns by tax type and year
  • Follow oral and written procedures

These positions may involve standing and/or sitting for long periods of time, operating high-speed mail slicing and opening equipment, and lifting/loading mail tubs weighing up to 40 pounds.


  • Experience checking, proofing, sorting, correcting errors or researching information of documents
  • Some knowledge of basic math and Microsoft Office or equivalent


  • Experience operating mail opening equipment 

All candidates being considered for employment with the Tax Commission must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, before a final job offer will be given.  Individuals must be a current tax filer and be in full compliance with their tax obligations to be an employee of the Idaho State Tax Commission.

This announcement will be used to fill temporary Mail Opener positions in Boise for the upcoming Tax Drive season.  If you have previously applied for any other temporary position and wish to be considered for this Tax Drive position, you must apply under this announcement.  Previous scores will not be used.  

Rating of Education and Experience: Respond to the examination questions based on your training and experience directly related to this position. Your resume will be used to validate your responses. You will receive a score based on your answers. You must receive a minimum rating of 85 to pass this examination. Notification of your test results will be available online, after the closing date, when the review process is complete.
