The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to protect the public, our staff and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnerships and providing opportunities for offender change.

The current opening is located at Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC) in Boise, Idaho. Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Promotional or Statewide Promotional applicants or for future vacancies at IDOC at the South Boise Complex for Food Service Supervisor, Correction that occur within the next 6 months. Food Service Supervisors supervise and instruct staff and inmates in food handling, preparation, nutrition, service, sanitation, safety, and storage.


  • Interviews, hires, determines work priorities, problem-solves, and evaluates performance of staff and/or inmates
  • Schedules work time for shift coverage
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and security regulations
  • Prepares reports and correspondence
  • Reviews logs and documentation for proper completion
  • Maintains inventory of food, supplies, keys, knives, and equipment, and orders food and related kitchen items
  • Recommends procedures for kitchen operations in line with laws, rules, regulations, and Department policies and directives
  • Ensures the efficient and operational effectiveness of the facility food service operations per guidelines
  • Prepares and serves food in accordance with standardized recipe and facility guidelines

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices
  • Some knowledge of the principles of nutrition
  • Some knowledge of sanitation and safe food handling practices of an institutional food service operation
  • Experience preparing and serving large volumes of food in an institutional setting
  • Experience using and maintaining equipment in an institutional food service operation
  • Experience using a computer to generate reports, OR have completed a word processing, spreadsheet or database class within the last two years which included Excel
  • POST Certification in Correction, graduated from an IDOC Pre-Service academy prior to July 1, 2005 and grandfathered per IDAPA or willing and eligible to become POST Certified within one (1) year of hire date. (See POST Minimum Standards for Employment online at


Hiring information:

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUIs, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
