Idaho's Department of Insurance is looking for a Fire Plans Examiner for the State Fire Marshal’s Office to review fire plans and specifications for compliance.

Occasional overtime work may be required and prior to hire the selected candidate will need to successfully pass a background check.

Responsibilities of This Position:

  • Examining plans and specifications for new construction and remodeling of both state-owned and leased structures
  • Examining of all automatic water based fire protection systems plans as required by state law
  • Determining design compliance with specific fire codes and standards
  • Preparing detailed reports and correspondence regarding fire code compliance assessments
  • Consulting with and advising architects, engineers, attorneys, contractors, local and state officials, and the public on interpretation and application of various codes and regulations
  • Researching and evaluating new materials and construction technology for compliance with requirements
  • Preparing and presenting training sessions for local fire officials
  • Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code and NFPA 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems
  • Experience performing design reviews and compliance evaluations of fire plans for large, complex, multi-occupancy buildings
  • Experience operating a personal computer to generate written reports documenting findings of fire plans reviews 

The following is not required, but will increase your score on the examination:

  • Certification as a Fire Code Official through the Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office
