The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is currently accepting applications for temporary Residential Assisted Living Facility Surveyors. The role of the surveyor is to conduct surveys and investigations, and apply state licensure laws and rules to ensure the residents of Idaho Residential Care Assisted Living Facilities (RALFs) receive quality care in a safe, humane, home-like living environment where their rights are protected. Previous experience either surveying or working in an assisted living facility is preferred.

These positions are located in Boise only. Incumbents in these positions travel extensively throughout the state and will be gone on overnight stays between 40% and 50% of their work time. All positions require travel.

We are currently filling full-time, temporary positions. Temporary appointments from this announcement, serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.   • Conduct outcome-oriented, resident-focused surveys and investigations
  • Assess each resident's health, social, emotional and habilitative needs
  • Observe care and services being providing to residents
  • Observe overall experience of individual as a resident of the facility, including expression of their rights, meals and nutrition, activities and social interactions, cleanliness, maintenance and comfort of living environment
  • Conduct interviews and determine through professional judgment if the facility is meeting the residents' needs in accordance with state regulations and health care standards
  • Use professional, collaborative approach to communicate survey findings and provide technical assistance to facility managers
  • Document observations, interviews and record reviews in surveyor notes throughout the survey process
  • Write survey findings and update electronic licensure records using multiple software applications and desktop, laptop and tablet equipment
  • Conduct trainings for industry representatives and assist in development of on-line training courses, newsletters, best practice forms and other tools

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least one year's experience providing medical care in a health care delivery system, (e.g., an institution, clinic, or office setting, either military or civilian)
  • Possess a valid driver's license

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Idaho or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418. For licensure information, please contact the Idaho Board of Nursing at
  • Bachelor's degree plus licensure as a Residential Care Administrator by the Idaho Bureau of Occupational licensing at plus at least one year of experience working in an Assisted Living.
  • Licensure as a Residential Care Administrator by the Idaho Bureau of Occupational licensing at plus at least three years of experience serving as a Residential Care Administrator in Idaho.
