The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections is currently seeking to fill a Nurse Manager position at the Juvenile Corrections Center in Nampa.

The Nurse Manager oversees the nursing services for the Juvenile Corrections Center in Nampa (JCC-N).  The position manages the medical budget at the Nampa facility in addition to supervising five LPN positions and managing services including triaging medical complaints, providing emergency care, dispensing and monitoring medication, arranging for ancillary medical/dental/vision/specialty services, and educating juveniles regarding health care issues and disease prevention.  The Nurse Manager may work weekends and holidays to ensure adequate coverage in the medical clinic. Advanced services not provided by licensed nursing staff are contracted to medical and/or mental health providers.  

Nampa is located just minutes from the capitol city of Boise in southwestern Idaho.  It is the second largest city in Idaho with all the amenities one would expect of an urban area while still retaining that home town atmosphere.   • Oversees nursing services and supervises five LPNs in a 24/7 juvenile correctional facility (128 beds).
  • Hires, trains and manages nursing staff.
  • Local travel and occasional travel throughout Idaho may be required.
  • Ensures standards and quality management are maintained.
  • Provides consultation, coordinates, and seeks out program activities with other departments, agencies and provider/client groups to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Participates in quality management activities.
  • Confers with department staff on requirements and program compliance issues.
  • Participates in long-range planning and procedure development for the facility.
  • Maintains contact with physicians and other health care providers.
  • Maintains awareness of community medical practices to ensure continuity of care for juveniles committed to our Department.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Licensed as a Professional or Registered Nurse in Idaho as defined by Idaho Code 54-1408 or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418, in one of the following compact states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin. 
  • Good knowledge of supervisory practices. 
  • Experience assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies and procedures and recommending appropriate actions. 
  • Experience supervising employees, including direct responsibility for hiring, assigning and reviewing work, completing performance evaluations, and participating in problem solving. 
  • Willingness to work in a correctional facility.  See question #4 on the exam.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated competency in management and leadership.  See question #5 on the exam.
  • Experience working as a team member on projects outside the scope of daily work assignments or work unit.  See question #6 on the exam.

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and hiring will be subject to:

  • A complete criminal history background investigation including but not limited to the Idaho State Police Criminal Identification Bureau and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be conducted on the successful applicant.
  • The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections is a drug free work environment. Immediately after a conditional offer of employment has been extended to an applicant (before 5:00 pm of the day of the offer), he or she must test free of drugs as a condition of employment.
  • The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a TB test during the first 30 days of employment.
