The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is seeking an Immunization Outreach and Assessment Coordinator (classified as Health Program Specialist) for the Idaho Immunization Program in the Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention. This position will be responsible for coordinating outreach and school assessment activities for the program.

This announcement will be used to fill the current vacancy in Boise only. If you have previously applied for Health Program Specialist and wish to be considered for the current vacancy, you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used.


  • Plans, implements, and evaluates immunization education programs for health professionals, volunteers and the general public;
  • Acts as a liaison to community immunization groups, special counsels and workgroups;
  • Acts as a liaison to public health districts;
  • Assists in planning program involvement in health fairs, conferences, media development and other public education opportunities related to immunizations;
  • Conducts research on assigned issues and prepares responses to findings;
  • Prepares and conducts presentations for various audiences;
  • Coordinates immunization-related trainings;
  • Coordinates the evaluation and assessment of school immunization rates; 
  • Submits various reports to state and federal agencies as needed;
  • Maintains and evaluates the content of state immunization website;
  • Monitors immunization outreach contracts;
  • Provides technical assistance to school staff, childcare providers, public and private health care providers; contractors, volunteer organizations, and the public;
  • Provides technical assistance to partners regarding immunization requirements and IRIS school and childcare modules
  • Assists in marketing/outreach planning and implementation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of public health practices, survey methodology and statistical procedures used to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Some knowledge of immunization practices; good knowledge of public health practices related to vaccine-preventable diseases.
Additional Qualifications: Are not required; however, having the minimum qualifications and the education and/or experience below will increase your score.
  1. Some knowledge of training methods, evaluation methods, cultural competency, coalition building, and community involvement. Typically gained by at least one year of related experience.
  2. Some knowledge of communication tools such as graphic design, general marketing principles and practices. Typically gained by at least one year of related professional experience; OR completion of at least one related course or training.
  3. Experience working with school nurses, childcare providers and/or medical providers. Typically gained by at least one year of related experience.
  4. Experience presenting health information to a wide variety of audiences. Typically gained by at least one year of related experience.
