The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is recruiting for a Clinical Specialist (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) at State Hospital North in Orofino. This position will cover patient care duties, administrative, and documentation duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs preliminary screening and diagnosis of medical conditions including comprehensive examination of mental health patients
  • Conducts physical examination and orders appropriate laboratory tests and x-rays; orders treatment and consultation as determined by the physician
  • Consults with specialists concerning specific medical problems of patients
  • Prescribes psychotropic medications and orders drugs for specific therapy regimens
  • Evaluates psychosocial behavior patterns of patients
  • Performs secondary screening and diagnosis of psychiatric conditions
  • Performs on-going evaluation of severe and persistent mentally ill
  • Advises physician of psychiatric history, treatment, prescriptions, and medical regimens
  • Provides face-to-face and phone intervention, evaluation, treatment, and referral for psychiatric emergencies
  • Makes referrals to other mental health services and/or to other support services in the community

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for registration as Physician Assistant with the Board of Medicine or Nurse Practitioner with the Board of Nursing

State Hospital North, Orofino: SHN is a 55-bed adult psychiatric hospital located in North Central Idaho. Our hospital employs approximately 137 full- and part-time staff.
