Idaho Falls Regional Office is hiring two (2) Health Physicist to implement INL Oversight Program.  Both positions will be responsible for the Environmental Surveillance Program. Both positions are required to receive and maintain a Department Of Energy (DOE) 'L' clearance for security purposes to include passing a pre-hire drug screening test. A valid, current driver's license is also required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Oversight Program's Environmental Surveillance Program
  • Maintain and update the appearance of the Community Monitoring Stations including repair and development of a public outreach forum to educate the public about radiological monitoring
  • Maintain the INL Oversight Program's emergency response plans and procedures
  • Perform responsibilities as defined in emergency response plans and in accordance with INL oversight procedures in the event of a radiological emergency
  • Track and maintain the calibration of radiological instruments used to survey the Department of Energy's radioactive material shipments
  • Conduct review and evaluations of current training standards regarding radiological material and transportation of radiological material
  • Position requires incumbents receive and maintain a DOE 'L' clearance for security purposes to include passing a drug screening test

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR, any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year Bachelor’s degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.
    AND,
  • At least four (4) years’ experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
    OR,
    Possession of a Master's degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years' professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.

         OR
         Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy in the sciences or related field

Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position): 

5642 HEALTH/RADIATION PHYSICS: Considerable knowledge of health or radiation physics typically gained through
possession of a college degree in Physics, Health Physics, Geophysics, Environmental Science, Nuclear, Chemical, Civil
or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field; OR education and experience equivalent to an undergraduate
degree which includes successful completion of two (2) upper division health or radiation physics college courses; AND
at least two (2) years of experience performing radiation dose assessments, radiological controls, environmental
monitoring for radionuclides, and radiological regulatory analysis and interpretation.

OR
Possession of a Master's degree in any of the previously listed fields AND approximately two (2) years of full-time work experience performing the
previous examples of work.
