The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Technician 3 in the Plant Industries Division in Coeur d'Alene, ID

This position supports watercraft inspection station operation, veliger survey, and aquatic weeds survey and eradication treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating herbicide applicator efforts, education, and coordination related to Eurasion watermilfoil and other aquatic weeds
  • Data entry - veliger data and aquatic weeds project data
  • Assist in coordinating activities with the seasonal employees for survey and eradication efforts
  • Invasive aquatic species survey (veliger sampling, invasive species survey)
  • Will also be responsible to ensure samples are mailed from ISDA for lab analysis
  • Invasive species equipment, deployment, repair, maintenance, user training, winterization, storage, and de-winterization
  • Troubleshoot, oversee, and train watercraft inspection station 
  • Fouled watercraft decontamination
  • Education and outreach for public and user groups
  • Contact and communicate with training groups and subcontractors
  • Will also be responsible to help order parts, equipment supplies, and various other issues that will require incumbent to be in the office accessing computer
  • Various Invasive species report investigation and minor species sampling, such as red-eared sliders, crayfish, snakes, etc.  
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:  These qualifications are mandatory requirements.

  • Good knowledge of scientific methods
  • Experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities
  • Experience compiling and collecting data and preparing reports

Desirable Qualifications: These qualifications are not required however if you have the related background it may increase your score.

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations/laws related to motorized recreational boating use
  • Ability to stand, swim and work in very cold water for four to six hours per shift, lift and move material weighing up to 60 pounds, climb on and off transport trucks, and work in all types of weather conditions
  • Experience applying GIS/GPS data collection in environmental or natural resource planning and analysis
