Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for landscaping and grounds maintenance

May train and assign work to subordinates

May design and implement beds and borders including recommendations for new planting, replanting and reorganizing existing plans of lawn areas, shrubbery, shade and ornamental trees, and flower beds

Inspects plants, trees and shrubs for insect pests or disease and takes necessary measures for eradication

Maintains records and files and submits reports as required

May develop snow removal plans

Maintains landscaping around offices, parks, and recreation areas and seeds or sods lawns

Prepares areas for planting trees, bushes, and flowers and mows and trims grass

Prunes trees and bushes using hand and power tools

Lays out, installs, and repairs sprinkler or other irrigation and watering systems

Applies pesticides and herbicides

Patches asphalt in road and parking areas

Uses hand and power tools and operates equipment such as front-end loader, dump truck, snow blower, rototiller, multi-wing mower, chain saw, trencher, backhoe, tree spade, and similar devices associated with commercial landscaping

Performs minor mechanic work on grounds equipment, greases and cleans equipment and changes oil and filters, checks batteries, tire pressure, belts, chains and bearings

Minimum Requirements:

Six months of experience working for Idaho State government performing the duties of a Landscape Technician (or Grounds Maintenance Worker); OR have one year of experience in landscaping and general grounds maintenance work; OR have completed a recognized course of study in landscape gardening or landscape design such as a formal vocational training program or a two-year college course in ornamental horticulture or landscape work.

Willing AND physically able to lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 lbs, bend, stoop and shovel in all types of weather

Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred Requirements:

Experience in sprinkler system installation and maintenance

Applicator Licenses or willingness to obtain a license within six months of hire

Experience instructing/overseeing the work of others in grounds maintenance
