ITD is recruiting for a Public Information Specialist to join the department’s Office of Communication in telling the story of one of the best transportation departments in the country. You will have an opportunity to help make Idaho’s roads safer, increase mobility and promote economic opportunity. Candidates must have strong writing skills, experience interacting with news media, an understanding of how to use social media effectively and the ability to collaborate with others to develop successful outreach campaigns and facilitate public hearings, meetings and events. The preferred candidate should also have a basic knowledge of photography, publication design, marketing, government relations experience and an understanding of how to write for print and broadcast mediums.

The successful candidate should be innovative, detail oriented, organized and willing to change direction rapidly. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to multitask on a variety of deadline driven projects simultaneously.

  • Facilitate, develop and coordinate communication outreach campaigns, public hearings, meetings as well as news events;
  • Write and edit press releases for all ITD divisions;
  • Coordinate media responses, along with preparing data for statewide media inquiries;
  • Write video and radio PSA’s, presentations and speeches;
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the department;
  • Coordinate social media and media events;
  • Write and publish internal and external publications and;
  • Web page design, maintenance and updating.

Please note: This position will cover District 5 and District 6 therefore travel will be necessary. Also, travel to Boise headquarters is required several times a year.


Some knowledge of:

  • Organization, structure and ethics of the electronic or print news media;
  • Audiovisual production techniques to include video productions, still photography, slide shows or computer generated graphics.


  • Writing news releases or preparing general interest news for publication or broadcast;
  • Researching, composing, editing, and laying out informational material;
  • Interpreting and translating technical or specialized material into information usable by the public;
  • Producing or editing informational material using electronic word processing.
Examination: The exam is a resume review. You must receive a minimum rating of 100 to pass this examination. Exam results will be available online when the review process is complete.
