The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC)is to protect the public, our staff, and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnerships and providing opportunities for offender change

Please note changes have been made to this exam to include the standards required for the Department’s compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003. You must complete both exams attached to this announcement to be considered for this position.

This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI) for the Idaho Department of Correction. The incumbent will be a member of the institutions management team. They will also gain supervisory experience managing the records area for the facility.

If you have previously applied for the position of Management Assistant with this or any other State of Idaho agency and wish to be considered for the current vacancy, you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used. Hiring lists may be created from IDOC promotional and maybe used to fill future vacancies in the Boise area facilities for IDOC only.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties to enable the Warden and the management team to function more effectively
  • Perform minimal secretarial or clerical support functions
  • Interpret, apply and implement policies and procedures
  • Incumbent is part of the management team and participates in management decisions
  • Perform financial record keeping
  • Resolve complex problems or issues concerning the facility
  • Respond to sensitive or controversial issues from staff, inmates and families of inmates

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience interpreting and applying regulations or policies and procedures
  • Experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating special projects
  • Experience independently researching, compiling, developing and summarizing material for reports on a frequent or recurring basis
  • Experience analyzing information, identifying problems, defining alternatives and developing recommendations for management/administrators

SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good knowledge of computer applications
  • Experience composing official correspondence, reports, research papers, and other complex documents

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION:

  • Currently employed at an adult correctional facility

HIRING INFORMATION:

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)

EXAMINATION:

  1. Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) - In compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003, we are required to obtain certain information in the exam/interview process and consider specific information when making hiring and selection decisions for positions that have contact with inmates "in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution..." The PREA Standards do not require we obtain this information for positions not within a correctional facility such as Probation & Parole and Central Office positions. Again, these changes are being implemented in order for the department to the meet the requirement of PREA standards.   2. Minimum Qualifications Exam - You will receive a score based on your education and experience in the answers to the exam. A minimum score of 73 is required to pass.
