The Idaho State Tax Commission's Taxpayer Resources Unit is recruiting for a Tax Policy Specialist with a specialty in the area of sales tax

The successful candidate will research, analyze, and interpret existing and proposed sales tax rules, coordinate and engage in negotiated rulemaking, and promulgation of Tax Commission administrative rules, and provide technical sales tax expertise.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Research, draft and recommend changes to sales tax laws, rules, procedural statements and directives to clarify and implement statewide tax policy
  • Chair the sales tax rules committee and present rules before the legislature
  • Participate in the development and recommendation of forms and instructions
  • Serve as a sales tax expert for legislative committees
  • Respond to sales tax inquiries from elected officials, tax professionals, attorneys and public
  • Communicate adopted policy and rules changes
  • Present educational outreach activities to enhance transparency
  • Make public presentations and present training

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience demonstrating considerable knowledge of state tax codes and rules in the area of sales tax

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with public speaking, business presentations, or public relations
  • Some knowledge of state and local government organization structure, functions, and decision-making processes to include public policy development, state rulemaking and legislative process
