The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to protect the public, our staff, and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnerships and providing opportunities for offender change

Financial Technicians work at our Central Office in Boise primarily performing accounts payable and accounts receivable record keeping, preparing financial reports and cost allocations, and ensuring financial data is entered accurately and meets compliance standards.

Previous scores will not be used. Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future full-time, part-time or temporary vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently perform specialized financial record keeping, maintenance, review, verification and support functions
  • Use bookkeeping methods and procedures to prepare work/spread sheets, standardize summaries and reports, and perform reconciliation
  • Determine cost allocations
  • Use automated systems and system software to enter, retrieve and edit financial data and prepare financial documents
  • Research accounting systems and records to identify and correct errors in financial transactions
  • Has latitude in explaining and applying policies, procedures, or regulations and in determining if financial data meets compliance standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good knowledge of financial record keeping methods
  • Experience researching and compiling financial information and preparing summaries and reports
  • Experience using personal computers to enter, retrieve, and edit financial data

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION:

  • Experience reviewing and preparing documents for accounts payable/accounts receivable transactions for processing
  • Experience updating/modifying financial related desk procedure manuals
  • Experience balancing, reconciling and proofing financial data
  • Experience with the State of Idaho STARS System

HIRING INFORMATION:

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)

EXAMINATION:

You will receive a score based on your education and experience in the answers to the exam. A minimum score of 35 is required to pass. Notification of your test results will be available online when the exam review process has been completed. All answers to the questions on the exam must be supported in the work history, resume, and/or education portion of your application.
