 The Department of Water Resources (IDWR) currently has an opening for a Staff Engineer in its Boise Office in the Water Projects Section.  In attempt to fill this position in a timely manner, applications will be periodically reviewed and qualified candidates will be interviewed on an ongoing basis.

 

The person in this position will be a key team member in carrying out the State of Idaho’s Water Resource Sustainability and Aquifer Stabilization Initiative on behalf of the Idaho Water Resource Board (IWRB). This position provides a unique opportunity to develop your engineering career while working on and managing water projects needed to stabilize Idaho’s aquifers and ensure water sustainability for current needs and future economic growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage one or more projects to increase Idaho’s surface water storage in cooperation with partner agencies.
  • Assist with operating managed aquifer recharge program for the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer.
  • Provide recommendations for needed managed recharge infrastructure and other aquifer stabilization projects for the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer.
  • Manage the design and construction of aquifer recharge infrastructure projects, or significant portions of projects.
  • Monitor construction progress of aquifer stabilization projects accomplished through partnership agreements.
  • Identifies strategies for stabilization of other aquifers and carries out those strategies.
  • Review, analyze, and provide recommendations regarding water projects proposed to be accomplished through loan agreements.
  • Monitor construction progress of water projects financed through loan agreements.
  • Works in a team setting with internal staff, engineering consultants, project partners, and others during the course of a project.
  • Represents IDWR and the IWRB at meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices
  • Experience writing technical engineering reports
  • Experience evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects
  • Experience coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards
  • Experience in water resource management and/or agriculture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction Management experience
  • Knowledge of project management principles and project management software
  • Experience presenting complex technical information to a variety of audiences
  • The ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Knowledge of the planning, design, and construction of water resource projects
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
  • Some knowledge of hydrology and water rights
  • The ability to apply initiative and decision making in a professional capacity under general supervision

Examination:

Education and Experience. You must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for this position. Scoring is based on the information you provide. A minimum score of 58 is needed to pass. Test results will be available online when the review process is complete.
