The Idaho Transportation Department is offering a unique opportunity for a registered Professional Land Surveyor to work in our District 6 - Rigby office. If you would enjoy a wide range of responsibilities in the areas of providing land survey services for district project development to establish basis for roadway and bridge design, this could be the job for you. This position also provides input on environmental studies and proposed right-of-way impacts affecting multiple route considerations and the selection process. 

This position requires some outdoor field work and the possibility of working in inclement weather.

We are looking for a dedicated employee with good technical skills and the ability to provide technical guidance while working with department staff, other agencies, and the general public.

Responsibilities:

Land surveys:

  • Surveys land to be acquired for highway purposes;
  • Recommends land survey needs for projects, sources and maintenance;
  • Provides input on environmental studies and proposed right-of-way impacts affecting multiple route considerations and the selection process;
  • Designs horizontal and vertical alignment for roadways;
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates with headquarters and private engineering firms in preparation of aerial mapping surveys; prepares plats and files property surveys with county recorder;
  • Prepares legal descriptions of surveyed lands;
  • Researches and exchanges survey data with government and private surveyors and engineers;
  • Tests and evaluates surveying and design software and survey instruments for acquisition;
  • Prepares estimates of survey costs to help select consultant firms;
  • Maintains permanent file on original survey notes;
  • Operates, cleans and adjusts survey equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Idaho as outlined in Title 54, Chapter 12, Section 54-1208, Idaho Code; OR, eligibility for comity registration from another state.   • Experience: using surveying principles and practices involved in planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of streets or highways.
  • Good knowledge of: supervisory practices.
  • Some knowledge of geodesy.

  • This position requires a valid driver's license.
