Facilities Operations and Maintenance

Boise State University has an opening for a Custodian Leadworker Swing Shift Position in Facilities Operations and Maintenance.  The schedule for this Swing Shift position is Monday - Friday 5:00 pm to 1:30 am with possible weekend shift work as needed.  Schedule subject to change based on business needs.  The swing shift position is eligible for a 5% shift differential.

  • Leads a team of custodians which are in part responsible for the cleaning of a large educational institution.
  • Coordinates various custodial responsibilities and tasks to be accomplished and ensures safe working conditions are maintained for clients and staff.
  • Trains in proper and safe ways to perform custodial services and operate/maintain equipment.
  • Reviews work to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Performs and leads others in heavy-duty cleaning of offices, classrooms, locker rooms, examination rooms, gymnasiums, and lavatories.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and polishes bath, lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures.
  • Dusts, mops, waxes, shampoos furniture, woodwork, walls, windows, and glass.
  • Operates scrubbing, buffing, shampooing, vacuuming, and wet/dry pickup machines.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance on cleaning equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of: the methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work including related safety practices; cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions.
  • Some knowledge of: supervisory practices; sanitation and infection control; training methods used in custodial work.
  • Experience: operating industrial-type high-speed cleaning equipment; performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment; using hand tools to repair cleaning equipment; explaining the use and maintenance of custodial equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid driver’s license within 90 days of employment
  • Must be able to meet the following criteria to be considered for the position:
    • Accumulated less than, nine (9) or more points within the past (36) months (see IDPA 39.02.71) on their Idaho driver’s license record
    • Accumulated a total of less than one-half the points that would trigger suspension or revocation of the driver’s license on their out-of-state or international driver’s license record
    • Has not had a suspended or revoked driver’s license within the past three (3) years for driving-related conduct whether or not involving a University Vehicle
    • Has not had a conviction, plea of guilty, withheld judgment, or other determination of fault (“Conviction”) for an alcohol or drug-related offense while driving within the past (3) years
    • Does not have two (2) or more convictions, pleas of guilty, withheld judgments, or determinations of fault
