Location(s): Lewiston

This is an evening shift from 1:00 PM - 11:00 PM; Monday - Thursday.

Responsibilities:

  • This position involves exposure to all types of weather conditions, usually during the evening and at night; standing and walking up to eight hours per day; climbing stairs; interacts with students, staff and visitors. Physical danger is present during investigations of unlawful activity.  Officers are required to maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Public Safety: Typical duties include: receiving and responding to requests for services and assistance, incidents involving fights in progress or other disturbances; confronting unauthorized visitors and persons violating college policy, and argumentative and disorderly individuals or groups; investigating security infractions such as trespassing, vandalism, burglary  or theft; interviewing crime victims and witnesses, writing incident reports, and maintaining daily event logs; reporting safety infractions and mechanical malfunctions; administering CPR/First Aid in emergency situations; maintaining crowd control at sporting events, concerts, and other functions; provide security escorts for employees and students; provide information and direction to visitors; respond to complaints and intruder alarms; search buildings and other areas for intruders or unauthorized persons; assist police when requested; respond to fire alarms and assist the fire department with building access and evacuations; enforce parking regulations and traffic control.
  • Building and Property Security:  Typical duties include patrol of campus, buildings and other property owned by LCSC to prevent and detect fire, burglary, vandalism, and mechanical malfunctions; securing all doors and windows in public buildings; conduct building searches in regards to suspicious circumstances and activity; patrolling facility parking lots and areas in and around campus residence halls.
  • Communications and Reports:  Typical duties include maintaining and typing daily event logs and incident reports using various computer software programs; answering and using an office multi-line telephone and operating a multi-channel portable radio w/ police band frequency; using a computer & various programs, and other related office equipment. Officers must have the ability to communicate with the general public and public officials in a professional manner; ability to articulate detailed communication to outside emergency response agencies especially during times of high stress.
  • Public Relations: All officers are encouraged to get involved in the campus in any way possible to promote safety awareness. This includes offering safety classes, speaking at presentations or creating various posters or brochures for the campus community.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Good knowledge of building security procedures.
  • Experience: applying fire and life safety hazards; evaluating and handling disturbances and security emergencies reading, applying and following written and oral instructions; writing business reports, investigative reports, or detailed documentation; typing or using a keyboard. 
  • Valid driver's license.

The following is not required, but may increase your score on the examination:

  • At least 6 months experience providing security for a college, university or institution (hospital). 

Preferred Qualifications:

Clean driver's records; current driver's license with a minimum of two years driving experience.  Must have physical ability to visually observe activities in their assigned area both day and night; be capable of patrolling an assigned area on foot (5-8 miles per shift); physical capacity to subdue and restrain a resisting adult and carry an incapacitated adult downstairs and out of a building; and lift and carry traffic barricades and equipment (50-75 lbs.).  Manage multiple priorities during emergencies; speak, read, and write English, and communicate with those who use English as a 2nd language.
