The Department of Administration is dedicated to providing responsive, cost effective, and timely support services to Idaho's policy makers, public agencies and state employees as they serve Idaho citizens.

This position is located in Postal Services within the Department of Administration. Postal Services handles all USPS mail, UPS, FEDEX, certified and first class mail for all agencies located in the Capitol Mall and state agencies located in and around Boise and Meridian.  Postal Routes are both driving and walking and may involve working outdoors during all seasons of the year.  These positions involve lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. A valid driver's license and willingness to perform the duties of a Postal Clerk are required.

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Sorts, delivers, and picks up mail to and from post office and interdepartmental sites;
  • Processes, weighs, and meters all classes of mail using metering equipment and scales;
  • Operates a document folder, inserter, flat sorter, and letter sorter;
  • Processes bulk mail and First Class Presort per US Postal rules and regulations;
  • Determines appropriate class and accounts codes.

Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):

  • Some knowledge of basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing;
  • Experience handling, storing and shipping materials or supplies;
  • Experience operating material handling equipment;
  • Experience accessing information on a computer;
  • Experience reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness;
  • Willingness to:
    • Be trained on the operation of power and/or hand tools;
    • Greet individuals;
    • Answer phones and provide information to customers;
    • Bend, stoop, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds;
    • Stand and walk continuously throughout an 8-hour shift;
    • Work in dusty and dirty conditions;
    • Handle and store hazardous materials;
    • Clean and maintain a safe working environment.

Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):

  • Possess a valid driver's license;

Desirable Qualifications:

The following are not required, but possessing this experience may increase your overall score:

  • Experience interpreting and applying postal regulations and rate structures
  • Experience operating and maintaining postal equipment
