This position is critical to support the Computer Science department as student enrollments are increasing and additional faculty positions are being added. If this position remains vacant, the CS administrative office's ability to advise and assist students and faculty will be severely inadequate and greatly impact the quality and timeliness of support for students and faculty this year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex secretarial, office administration, and public relations assignments.
  • Respond to inquiries and explain university and department services, policies, and procedures to faculty, students and the public.
  • Function independently, exercising discretion in applying policies and procedures and using extensive knowledge of department programs.
  • Research, analyze and compile information to prepare reports, handle complaints or resolve problems.
  • Maintain and handle sensitive information related to student matters.
  • Collaborate with other administrative support staff to implement department directives and to complete large projects.
  • Assist with hiring processes for faculty, staff and students
  • Purchase and order supplies and other inventory needed.
  • Responsible for financial transactions such as reconciling credit card purchases.
  • Coordinate faculty and student travel arrangements.
  • Compose meeting minutes and other documents.
  • Assist with course scheduling.
  • Provide basic student advising.


  • Good knowledge of office support functions including word processing; filing; composing a variety of business documents; reception; and researching, compiling, and summarizing data for reports.
  • Experience interpreting, applying and explaining complex information such as regulations, policies or services; independently solving problems/performing liaison activities in a work setting; coordinating activities requiring complex arrangements.


  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Conversant written communication and oral communication skills.
  • Exemplary customer service skills; ability to de-escalate tension.
  • Experience analyzing information and researching a variety of complex sources to identify and resolve problems and issues.
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs.
  • Experience setting priorities for own projects within the general framework of given deadlines.
  • Ability to work closely and well with others in a fun and fast-paced office environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and Google Apps.
  • Ability to assist with management of web pages and social media sites.
  • Ability to accurately gather and compile data and prepare reports using relational database such as PeopleSoft.
  • Interest in the local technology industry and playing an important role in it.
