The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to protect the public, our staff, and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnerships and providing opportunities for offender change

Note: This is position is Part-Time and includes benefits. The hours are Monday through Friday, 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm.

This announcement will be used to fill the current part-time vacancy in Boise at our Headquarters office. This announcement may be used for open competitive, Statewide, and/or department promotional applicants. If you have previously applied for Receptionist with this or any other State of Idaho agency and wish to be considered for the current vacancy, you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used.

BENEFITS:

Responsibilities:

  • Provides front-line customer service in person and on the telephone and refers customers to appropriate office or staff
  • Responds to questions related to services
  • Performs basic office support functions such as keyboarding, mailroom, filing, and record keeping
  • Operates a central telephone console or multi-line telephone system to receive and route calls
  • Greets and directs offenders, offender's family, and friends
  • As this is a shared position, the incumbent may be required to cover the morning shift on occasion (full-time work temporarily)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience: answering a business telephone using knowledge of business telephone procedures and etiquette; greeting individuals and providing information, in person or by telephone, in a business setting
Specialty Qualifications:
  • Some experience operating a multi-line telephone system
  • Experience accessing data using a computerized records system (Operating a computerized cash register does not qualify)

Desirable Qualification:

  • Ability to speak Spanish and English fluently
HIRING INFORMATION:

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)

EXAMINATION:
You will receive a score based on your education and experience in the answers to the exam. A minimum score of 50 is required to pass this examination. Notification of your test results will be available online when the exam review process has been completed. All answers to the questions on the exam must be supported in the work history, resume, and/or education portion of your application.
