The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is recruiting for someone with exceptional customer service skills for a Technical Records Specialist 1 position in our Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This position is located at our headquarters office in Boise. The Division of Motor Vehicles is responsible for all aspects of driver and vehicle services. This Division is responsible for assisting county DMV offices, the general public, and the commercial trucking industry with technical and database issues, reviewing documents, researching and resolving issues associated with driver and vehicle services. Duties also include analyzing and explaining laws, rules, and regulations.

This position requires strong customer service skills as they are in constant communication with internal and external customers via phone, email and occasionally in-person.

  • Reviews, evaluates, approves, and processes records and/or documents;
  • Explains requirements, processes, and procedures to customers;
  • Maintains a manual or computerized records systems; performs related work;
  • Gathers information, makes decisions, resolves problems, and responds to inquiries that involve an extensive and in-depth knowledge of the programs;
  • Utilizes independent judgment and discretion as to the methods, policies, and procedures used to complete assignments;
  • Conducts involved searches which may require accessing and selecting multiple information sources or contact with clients, vendors, or outside sources to obtain information.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Monitoring one or more records systems to identify and correct errors;
  • Researching a variety of sources to resolve problems;
  • Interpreting, explaining and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments;
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized records systems.


  • Education/Experience: You will receive a score based on your answers
  • You must receive a minimum rating of 62 to pass this examination
  • Exam results will be available online when the review process is complete
  • All answers to the questions on the checklist must be supported in the work history, resume, and/or education portion of your application
