Facilities Services

Responsibilities:
  • Designs key and lock systems including computerized systems, and explains sequences to people unfamiliar with lock devices.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains electro-magnetic latching systems.
  • Wires and installs card reading/scanning devices.
  • Establishes key lock and related systems which permit controlled access to buildings and insures security.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and adjusts locks.
  • Checks keys and locks for wear and repairs and replaces them; machines new pieces to fit hardware which may not have stock parts available.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of key and lock materials and supplies and maintains related computerized systems.
  • Prepares key and lock specifications.
  • Meets with manufacturers' representatives to determine best lock devices to use; advises facility staff regarding interpretation of policies relating to key issuance and security.
  • Rebuilds and reinforces door frames to accommodate new and specialized hardware.
  • Lubricates, adjusts and rebuilds panic devices, door closures, coordinators, hinges, automatic hardware, fire doors and alarm systems.
  • Designs and builds custom security devices.
  • Estimates time and material for job costs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: installing, maintaining, and repairing key and locking systems for doors, desks, file cabinets, and panic devices; using precision measuring devices in master keying and lock set-up; repairing locks, levers, cams, and cylinders to precise tolerances in locking systems; using hand and power tools to install locks, doors, and closures; setting-up lock and keying systems; establishing and maintaining key system inventory records.
