  • Maintains landscaping around offices, parks, and recreation areas and seeds or sods lawns.
  • Prepares areas for planting trees, bushes, and flowers and mows and trims grass.
  • Prunes trees and bushes using hand and power tools.
  • Lays out, installs, and repairs sprinkler or other irrigation and watering systems.
  • Applies pesticides and herbicides.
  • Patches asphalt in road and parking areas.
  • Uses hand and power tools and operates equipment such as front-end loader, dump truck, snow blower, rototiller, multi-wing mower, chain saw, trencher, backhoe, tree spade, and similar devices associated with commercial landscaping.
  • Performs minor mechanic work on grounds equipment, greases and cleans equipment and changes oil and filters, checks batteries, tire pressure, belts, chains and bearings.


  • At least six months or one season performing related work. Home yard work is not qualifying experience unless it is for a very large and detailed landscape/grounds; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Division of Human Resources
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
    Must be able to meet the following criteria to be considered for the position:
    1) Accumulated less than, nine (9) within the past (36) months (see IDPA 39.02.71) on their Idaho driver’s license record
    2) Accumulated a total of less than one-half the points that would trigger suspension or revocation of the driver’s license on their out-of-state or international driver’s license record
    3) Has not had a suspended or revoked driver’s license within the past three (3) years for driving-related conduct whether or not involving a University Vehicle
    4) Has not had a conviction, plea of guilty, withheld judgment, or other determination of fault (“Conviction”) for an alcohol or drug-related offense while driving within the past (3) years
    5) Does not have two (2) or more convictions, pleas of guilty, withheld judgments, or determinations of fault (“Conviction”) for alcohol or drug related offences while driving


  • Experience in sprinkler system installation and maintenance.
  • Applicator Licenses or willingness to obtain a license within six months of hire. 
  • Experience instructing/overseeing the work of others in grounds maintenance.
