Businesses around Idaho are apparently again being contacted by private firms offering to sell them posters on state and federal labor laws that the Idaho Department of Labor provides free of charge.
“The people of Idaho have already paid for these posters with their taxes, and businesses shouldn’t have to pay again,” Labor Director Roger B. Madsen said. “All the posters businesses are required to post can be downloaded free from the front page of the Idaho Department of Labor Web site."
The latest report surfaced in Payette County, where mail solicitations were received from The Idaho Labor Law Poster Service of Boise offering a $20 discount for labor law posters the service normally sells for $59.50 plus $7.75 shipping.
Instead of paying for the posters, Idaho businesses can download a complete package - at no cost - of all the posters they are required to display from the Labor Department homepage – http://labor.idaho.gov - under “Top Picks.” The free packets are available in either English or Spanish and contain the following posters:
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Law
Idaho Minimum Wage Law
Job Health and Safety Law (OSHA)
Employee Polygraph Protection Act
Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993
Idaho Unemployment Insurance Benefits
Federal Minimum Wage
Idaho Anti-Discrimination Military Family Leave
Employers are encouraged to place the legally mandated posters on safety, minimum wage and discrimination in the workplace in a physical location where they can easily be seen by employees.
Other federal employment posters for specific employment situations are available at http://www.dol.gov/osbp/sbrefa/poster/matrix.htm.
