Representatives of agencies that can help eastern Idaho workers and their families navigate today's economic turbulence will be available Nov. 10 in Idaho Falls at a free Community Resource Fair.
The fair, which runs from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Eastern Idaho Technical College, 1600 S. 25th E. in Idaho Falls, is being sponsored by the college, the Idaho Department of Labor, the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership, the Development Workshop, CableOne and CWI, the contractor handling the environmental cleanup at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Since the year began, the Idaho Falls metro area unemployment rate has jumped more than two percentage points. Another 1,200 workers have lost their jobs in that time, and over 4,000 people are out of work.
" There are resources and support agencies to help people stay afloat and ready to move forward when the economy turns around," said Department of Labor Regional Disability Program Navigator Windy Melgaard. "We'll be doing more than trying to help people find jobs. People who come to the fair will learn tips and tricks of coping with bills and other aspects of everyday life."
In addition to information booths, the fair will offer free workshops on negotiating with creditors, changing careers, employment resources for veterans, job search strategies, dressing for success on a budget, overcoming employment barriers, avoiding home foreclosure and saving energy.
