Required Labor Law Posters Available FREE from State

The final increase in the minimum wage from $6.55 to $7.25 an hour takes effect July 24, which means a few private firms will use the change in law to try and sell what the state of Idaho provides to area businesses for free.

The most recent report came this week from Payette County, where a company called The Idaho Labor Law Poster Service of Boise mass mailed a solicitation to area businesses offering the required labor law posters for $59.50 plus $7.75 shipping.

“Idaho employers should not pay anything for required labor law posters,” Labor Director Roger B. Madsen said. “The people of Idaho have already paid for these posters through their taxes. Businesses can and should download them free of charge from our Web site.”

Employers are encouraged to place the legally mandated posters on safety, wage and discrimination in the workplace in a physical location where they can easily be seen by employees.

A complete package of all the posters Idaho businesses are required to display can be found on the Labor Department homepage – http://labor.idaho.gov - under the “Top Picks” listing. Packets are available in either English or Spanish and contain the following posters:

  • U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Law
  • Idaho Minimum Wage Law
  • Job Health and Safety Law (OSHA)
  • Employee Polygraph Protection Act
  • Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993
  • Idaho Unemployment Insurance Benefits
  • Federal Minimum Wage
  • Idaho Anti-Discrimination
  • Military Family Leave

Other federal employment posters for specific employment situations are available at http://www.dol.gov/osbp/sbrefa/poster/matrix.htm.
