The Idaho Department of Labor and the Idaho Office on Aging are seeking applicants for seven positions through the Volunteers in Service to America program.
The volunteer positions are available through the expansion of VISTA approved by Congress in response to the severity of the national recession. The Office on Aging volunteer will help design and develop services for older workers. The Labor Department volunteers – stationed in local offices throughout the state – will help coordinate jobs funded by federal stimulus dollars and develop apprenticeships, work force service orientations, job search workshops, job clubs and tools to identify worker skills that can be transferred to new occupations. The positions run from this September through August 2010.
Applicants must have an e-mail address. To apply go to https://my.americorps.gov/mp/login.do and click on “Apply to Serve” to begin the process. The deadline is June 23.
“These volunteers will help expand the capacity of Idaho’s work force system to help clients escape the threat of poverty during one of the deepest economic slumps our state has experienced,” Department of Labor Area Manager Kristyn Roan said.
As a VISTA participant, volunteers will receive $833 a month for living expenses, health care and at the conclusion of the year of service their choice of $1,200 in cash or a $4,725 voucher for education.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 year old, United States citizens or permanent residents and have the skills and qualifications required by the Office on Aging and the Idaho Department of Labor. Applicants cannot be full-time students or employed outside their VISTA work and cannot be involved in lobbying or partisan political activity.
