Labor Helps Eastern Idaho Tech Company Fill Jobs

The Idaho Department of Labor is assisting an eastern Idaho high technology company in recruiting employees for its planned expansion.

Premier Technology Inc. of Blackfoot is hiring 30 new employees in the coming weeks for craft and production jobs and then adding more workers as the opportunity arises. Premier Technology designs, engineers and fabricates pressure vessels and shielded boxes, barriers and containers for customers around the globe.

“Premier is strongly committed to continued investment in our people, in the regional economy and in our great state of Idaho,” President Doug Sayer said. “While it is easy to invest during good economic times, we are making this commitment to grow during this most challenging of economic times as well.”

Since it opened its corporate headquarters in Blackfoot 2½ years ago, Premier’s payroll has doubled from 175 to 350.

The company announced earlier this year the formation of a construction management division that will handle every phase of a major project from planning, budgeting and cost control to personnel and materials management, site safety, construction contracting and processes, and applicable code and regulation enforcement anywhere in the world.

Last year the company resumed operations at its Pocatello plant, and Premier announced several months ago that it plans to build a new plant in Mackay.

“In the midst of a recession that has pushed the number of unemployed Idaho workers to a record, there are still companies like Premier that are moving ahead and taking advantage of opportunities that even a weak economy presents,” Idaho Department of Labor Director Roger B. Madsen said.
