Idaho Department of Labor Consultant Steve Lord has been recognized by The American Legion for his service to disabled veterans.
Lord was cited as the nation’s best facilitator of the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program, claiming The American Legion’s national winner of the year award in that category. He will receive the award during The American Legion’s national convention in August in Louisville, Ky.
“This certainly reflects Steve’s tireless and valuable service to our veterans,” Labor Director Roger B. Madsen said.
For more than 14 years, Lord has been working from the department’s Meridian office to provide employment and job-training opportunities for disabled and other qualified veterans. The program promotes on-the-job training and apprenticeship opportunities in both private industry and government.
Lord is the third Idaho Labor consultant to earn national recognition for service to veterans. Four years ago, Jerry Roehl in the Boise office received the same national honor, and in 1999 Kent Phelps of the Blackfoot office was honored as the nation’s top local veterans employment representative.
The legion’s Grand National winner was the Pocatello Labor office in 2003 and the Coeur d’Alene office in 2005, and for three of the last four years the Idaho Department of Labor has been recognized for outstanding service to homeless veterans.
