Idaho Labor Employee receives National Recognition

Idaho Department of Labor Policy Specialist and Senior Auditor Marilynn Clapp has been honored by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation with its Silver Award for her volunteer efforts as a member of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel.

“I congratulate you and all Americans who have answered this call,” President George Bush said in acknowledging the award before leaving office earlier this month. “I urge you to continue serving your neighbors.”

For three years, Clapp volunteered as a member of the national panel, serving on its subcommittees for communication, taxpayer burden and evaluation of billings, notices and publications. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service before joining the Labor Department.

The mission of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel is to listen to taxpayers, identify taxpayers’ issues and make recommendations for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction.

Clapp also represented the panel at joint meetings with accounting firms, the IRS, other state departments and at Idaho small business forums, providing each with current information to identify systemic problems.

Those receiving the award must have dedicated at least two years, or 4,000 hours, to serve others at home or abroad.
