On Nov. 6, President Barack Obama signed legislation to extend unemployment insurance benefits. Although details about the new extension have yet to be released, over 20,000 idled Idaho workers could receive up to 14 additional weeks of payments. Programming changes will be necessary in order to pay these additional benefits and should be completed in a few weeks. Until then, the Idaho Department of Labor will advise those who are eligible, but since specifics are still being worked out, checks under this latest benefit extension will not be issued until late November.
