Layoff Assistance

Let our Rapid Response Team show you how planning ahead for a layoff can make the process smoother, reducing the negative aspects of the event for employers and workers.

We can help:

Identify and help your employees access public programs like unemployment insurance, job placement assistance and retraining opportunities.

Coordinate an onsite Rapid Response Team to provide information on these programs to affected workers.

For large, permanent layoffs

Let us help you set up a reemployment committee made up of company officials, impacted employees, Labor consultants and community service providers to coordinate information and resources. Planning provides:

  • increased company and employee involvement
  • enhanced job placement efforts
  • improved communication between the workers and program representatives
  • improved program coordination; and
  • increased use of available services.

Downsizing as a Result of Foreign Trade

Trade Act

If a company is downsizing as a result of foreign trade, a company official files a petition with the U.S. Department of Labor with that information. If Labor determines criteria are met to certify the petition, individual workers at that company who are impacted can apply for the benefits offered by Trade Act.

Trade Act is a federal program that assists workers who have lost their jobs as a result of foreign trade by providing affected workers with opportunities to obtain training, resources and support to become reemployed. This program is offered at no cost to the employer.

WARN – Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification

A WARN notice is a U.S. Department of Labor act requiring covered employers to give workers written notice at least 60 calendar days before plant closings and mass layoffs. A WARN notice must be provided to either affected workers or their representatives, the Idaho dislocated worker unit and to the appropriate unit of local government.
