Design. Typical duties: confers with and advises clients on graphic design and multi-media projects; creates design concepts and makes recommendations to clients; determines format, layout, art work, photography, paper type, colors, typeface, typesetting specifications, ink selections, size, and finish; estimates project costs and production times; creates illustrations, digital output, line drawings, sketches, and related art work; performs digital imposition; coordinates printing; utilizes graphic design software in developing marketing/information materials; may perform web design; may provide training and work direction. |
Good knowledge of: computer graphic design techniques; design software. Experience: conceptualizing ideas and translating into camera-ready copy or digitally equivalent pre-press work via computer and traditional methods; creating design proofs for customers to approve; advising customers on publication design, art work, multi-media projects, costs, and completion time. |
Some positions require: Good knowledge of: promotion and marketing concepts; typography or printing and bindery processes; graphic-art offset printing standards, techniques, and materials. Web experience with basic html language and html editor software; and experience with imaging software related to file formats and functions and converting various formats for web use. Experience checking blue line proofs and press proofs. Experience creating art work, and digital files via scanners, computers and output devices. Experience creating, manipulating and formatting photographic images in digital formats for electronic and/or web-based documents and applications. |
